The Sri Siva Vishnu Temple: Sai Baba, situated in Lanham, Maryland, is approximately 12 miles from Washington, D.C. Within the temple complex, there was a structure that originally functioned as a temple until the current temple was constructed in the 1990s. Subsequently, the old building, which had been repurposed as a guest house, became outdated, prompting the temple authorities to seek additional space. Initially, they planned to renovate and expand the existing building, but as the project progressed and new construction requirements emerged, it evolved into a completely new buildout. The new Temple concept is designed to preserve the existing footprint as much as possible, with the exception of the Vigraham area, which is intended to be more prominent. The layout includes the Vigraham area on the ground level, housing Sai Baba of Shirdi, and the room is open to the roof where the Shikar is positioned. The ground level also features open religious space surrounding the Vigraham, while the second level hosts a meditation area with the Sri Vasavi Shrine. The design of the Sai Baba temple project prioritizes adherence to Hindu temple measurements and proportions, ensuring close cooperation with religious architects to honor tradition.
