The Queens Museum of Art faces the Unisphere and fountains on one side and Grand Central Parkway on the other, the museum wanted to expand into the remaining facility. Amplifying the existing, the long span structure and the Panorama, to create a grand interstitial space between the public and private sectors of the museum. The Interstitial Hall activates the void of the existing structure to create an atmospheric, active space that engages flux, multiple scales, variable installations, changing programmatic requirements and future potentials. The Interstitial Hall blends the surfaces of the Panorama by simultaneously revealing and concealing the primary object of the museum.
This project was produced while at STUDIOS Architecture.
